You could save £7,500 on an air source or ground source heat pump through the new government Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). If you’re eligible, we’ll apply for you. Find out more about the grant here.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme

What is it?

As part of the government’s initiative to move away from fossil fuels, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) has been introduced as a grant of £7,500 to help towards the cost and installation of an air source or ground source heat pump. The BUS is available for homes and non-domestic small buildings in England and Wales.

Am I eligible?

See the government’s criteria for eligibility below:

– Your property must have a valid energy performance certificate with no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation (there are some exceptions to this, please contact us for further information).

– The commissioning date of your low carbon heating system must be on or after 01/04/2022.

– Biomass boilers are only eligible in properties that are both in a rural location and not connected to the gas grid – heat pumps do not have either of these restrictions.

– You must be fully replacing an existing fossil fuel system such as an oil or gas boiler, or an electric heating system such as storage or panel heaters. Funding will not be available for the replacement of existing low carbon heating systems.

– You can still apply if you’ve previously received funding for energy efficiency upgrades such as insulation, windows, or doors.

– New-build homes and social housing are not eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, although self-build properties are.

– New-build homes and social housing are not eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, although self-build properties are.

Will the BUS cover the full cost?

The BUS won’t cover the full cost of the heat pump and installation; however, it will make up a significant amount of the overall charge (in some cases up to 60%). Plus, because they’re far more efficient than traditional gas boilers, a heat pump can save you money in the long run (up to 65% on your heating bill).
